Welcome To SETU!

SETU is an initiative by a cohort of academicians and business leaders of Indian origin in Australia.  Our aim is to create a SETU or bridge to facilitate direct contact and cooperation between the common people of the two democracies to share knowledge, exchange ideas and undertake projects in different sectors to benefit the world at large.

Rajiv Padhye

Professor Padhye is the Director, Centre for Materials Innovation and Future Fashion at RMIT University, Melbourne. He completed his PhD from the University of Leeds and Bachelor of Science (Textile Chemistry) from the University of Mumbai. He brings with him more than 35 years of academic experience and excellence in the areas of Textile manufacturing technology: chemistry and application of dyes; fibre science; fabric finishing; novel dyes and ink-jet printing; industrial fabric (non-woven) engineering and quality and performance testing (value added).

Milind Sathye

Professor Sathye is Professor of Banking and Finance and Head: Department of Accounting, Banking and Finance. University of Canberra worked for nearly two decades in the Reserve Bank of India/ NABARD including as Project Manager World Bank Pilot Project. His expertise has been sought by the Australian Senate Economic Committees on many occasions and some of his recommendations on Australian banking have found a place in Committees final report. He has also worked as expert witness on banking and finance cases for Federal Court of Australia, Victorian Supreme Court and others. Professor Sathye's research focus is on efficiency and productivity, AMLCTF, e-banking and microfinance.

Mahesh Potdar

Mahesh is the Contracts Manager at Monash University, Melbourne, and works within the intersection of research, innovation and business development. He has been working for 15 years in research, education and innovation in Australia, India and Japan, in both industry and the academic sector. He completed his M. Sc and PhD from Mumbai University, and has an extensive experiences in Indian and Australian academic and industry sectors.

Richa Shukla-Potdar

Dr Shukla-Potdar is a Business Operations Manager within Geotesta, an award-winning specialist Geotechnical and Environmental Engineering consulting firm in Melbourne. Before joining Geotesta, Richa did her PhD from Monash University and Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Rajiv Gandhi Prodyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, India. She has worked across Indian and Australian academic and industry systems and brings with her ana extensive knowledge that can bridge areas across both countries.

Nitin Patil

Dr Patil is an NHMRC Peter Doherthy Fellow at Monash University, Melbourne. He completed his Master of Pharmacy at NMIMS University, India and PhD within the bioorganic chemistry at the University of Melbourne. His research focuses on antimicrobial drug development, systems pharmacology, peptide drug development, and synthetic antisense antibiotics.

Varsha Thombare

Dr Thombare is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at The University of Melbourne. She completed her Masters of Pharmacy from The University of Pune, followed by a PhD at The University of Melbourne. She specializes in the areas of medicinal and peptide chemistry, Anti-cancer and anti-microbial cyclic peptide drug discovery. She is a Chartered Member of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI).

Avinash Karpe

Dr Karpe completed Bachelor of Science (Agriculture Biotechnology) from Mahatma Phule Agriculture University, India and followed that with Graduate Diploma of Science (Biotechnology) and Doctor of Philosophy at Swinburne University of Technology. He specializes in various aspects of microbiology and chemical analyses. He has applied this knowledge in the areas of natural medicines, food and nutrition, infection and disease, and environmental sciences.

Rohan Shah

Dr Shah is a lecturer at Swinburne University of Technology and RMIT University. He completed his Bachelor of Pharmacy from University of Pune, India and PhD from Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne. Rohan's research interests include lipid-based colloidal systems, metabolomics, value addition from food waste and neutron and X-ray scattering techniques. Dr Shah is a registered Pharmacist in the Pharmacy Council of India. He is a Chartered Member of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI).
